Cosby's Ellis, Wilson have big shoes to fill
One day last summer, H.J. Ellis was pitching at the Richmond Baseball Academy when his coaches noticed something. His velocity was touching 83 mph,Sadly, the iPad doesn't have either a USB port or an SD slot, but Apple sells the Apple ipad camera connection kit for £25. which wasn’t half bad for a rising senior in high school who threw in a submarine motion.
A few months later, Ellis used his iPhone to make a recruiting video to showcase his pitching. The video got the attention of the coaches at West Virginia University, and they invited him to enroll at the Morgantown school and try out for a walk-on spot.Manufacturer of outdoor footwear, outdoor footwear, hiking shoes, training shoes, safety shoes, work shoes, sandals, hiking footwear, safety footwear, work ...
So that’s what Ellis plans to do after graduation. For now, though, he serves as the catcher for the Cosby baseball team. On Tuesday, he went 3 for 3, scored twice and batted in two runs as the No.3 Titans defeated Manchester 8-4.
In the seven-year existence of Cosby baseball, Ellis is only the second starting catcher not named Lowery. Brothers Jake and Luke Lowery had prestigious careers in high school. Jake is in the Cleveland Indians’ farm system, and Luke is a freshman at East Carolina. Mike Birnbaum spent one year as Cosby’s catcher in between the Lowery brothers.
“I know I have huge shoes to fill,” Ellis said. “I’m pretty happy so far.”
In the fifth inning, Ellis, whose full name is Harry John Ellis III, hit a single to right field that went past the right fielder. Sixty feet away, there was another player trying to live up to expectations. Riley Fitzgerald threw 2 1/3 innings for Cosby, allowing one hit and one unearned run. At the plate, he went 2 for 4 and scored two runs.
The junior is the younger brother of Tyler Wilson, who pitched at the University of Virginia and now is in the Orioles’ minor-league system.
“We’re different players,” Wilson said. “But people like to compare us.buy microsoft office 2010 Online in Australia, Compare Prices of 1 Products from the best Stores. Lowest Price is . Save with MyShopping.com.au!”
The biggest difference between the brothers is that the younger Wilson is left-handed.Fitflops can make you feel relax, our fitflop singapore store provides hot Fitflop on sale style,if you want to get cheap fitflop, please join the fitflop online. The older Wilson played at Midlothian because he was enrolled in the International Baccalaureate program there. But the family lives in the Cosby district.
If given the opportunity, Riley would love to follow in his brother’s footsteps at Virginia.
“The sky’s the limit for him,” Cosby coach Tim Lowery said. “He’s got a good pedigree. He’s a student of the game, and he has a good IQ.”
His father, Philip, is a coach, too. He pitched in the Padres’ organization and ascended to the Triple-A level. But Riley understands all the name recognition in the world won’t do him any good if he can’t prove himself on the field.
“It helps,” Wilson said. “But I have to stand on my own two feet.”
