With poll numbers slipping in the final weeks of the mayor’s race, key aides to mayoral hopeful Christine Quinn were compiling a list of prominent New Yorkers to reach out to for endorsements.

One boldface name tossed around was pop star and LGBT icon Lady Gaga, reports the Daily News’ Annie Karni.

The match made sense on paper: Gaga considers herself a social-justice activist and runs a youth empowerment nonprofit organization called the Born This Way Foundation. Quinn was running a historic bid to become the city’s first female and openly gay mayor.

But the campaign quickly realized any Gaga offensive would be a nonstarter when the hit maker’s dad, upper West Side resident Joe Germanotta, began voicing his support for rival Bill de Blasio.

“Let’s NOT vote for Spitzer, Weiner or Lieu [sic]. Pass on Quinn and vote for De Blasio and Stringer. They are listening to the people of NYC,” Germanotta, a restaurant owner, tweeted on Aug. 6.

Like Quinn, de Blasio also saw the political value of a connection to Gaga and her online network of more than 40 million Twitter followers.

The campaign seized the opening. On Sept. 5, de Blasio and his son,Local Stop & Shop customers with reusable bag sale no longer get back 5 cents per bag. Dante,Looking for a {%} that can handle my designs of highly detailed and embellished shoes.Women Shoes Manufacturer visited Germanotta’s upper West Side restaurant, Joanne Trattoria. There, they thanked Germanotta for his support and posed for pictures that were quickly posted online.

“The most significant thing I saw was what de Blasio was doing to assist the small-business owners in the health department," said Germanotta, a frequent critic of Mayor Bloomberg and the city health department. “He was taking a very proactive role in how the fines and the activity were affecting their businesses,” he told the Daily News. “He came into my restaurant and thanked me for my support and I got to meet his son, Dante. I’m a big supporter.”

Asked if Gaga’s clan would become more involved, spokesman Dan Levitan said, “stay tuned.”

Political insiders say Gaga could have helped move the needle on Quinn’s failed bid. The onetime front-runner finished a distant third in the primary.

“Lady Gaga still has influence politically and in the media,” said one gay political operative. “Her endorsement in the mayoral race would help sway some LGBT voters and women. A single tweet from Gaga to her millions of followers can still generate headlines.”

Despite Quinn running as the only woman in the race, de Blasio was the top choice among female voters.

“My daughter doesn’t get involved with political requests like that,” Germanotta said when asked about Gaga’s involvement in the mayor’s race. A spokeswoman for Lady Gaga wouldn’t comment on the star’s involvement in the local political scene. A spokesman for Quinn said the campaign never reached out to Lady Gaga.
