Classes rained out at Sanchez High

Relentless rain soaked Simon Sanchez High School students as water flooded into classrooms and leaked through rusty hallway awnings yesterday morning.

Sanchez High's problems with flooding and leaking roofs go back at least a decade. 

In 2004, the Pacific Daily News reported that the leaking roof at Sanchez High's main building earned the structure a nickname: "the aquarium."

Perez said when it rains continuously, problems related to Sanchez High's old facilities become apparent. 

"It's disappointing because of the existing conditions of our school," Perez said. "That's the challenge and really there is no way around it when it rains like this."
